Finally started our new home with Ryan Homes

So we will go back in time real quick then fast forward to now since I'm starting this blog so late. My wife Jessica and I Frank have been talking about a new bigger home. We knew we wanted new construction and were torn between building on a lot we found or building with Ryan Homes. I'm going to follow the construction of our house in detail because we live so close and even continue with all the upgrades we do after we move in.
Jessica and I were looking at country woods for our new home but thought it was just a little to soon for us. We currently live in a Ryan Homes townhouse but we're ready for more space.  After debating for months about talking to them we decided to call on January 16th 2014 and got in that day. That's when the adventure begins.....
Of course there's no model home yet so we have to decide by floor plans on the wall and driving around to other Ryan developments. We knew we wanted 4 BR 2-3 Bath and plenty of space for our growing family. We walked a Ravenna, Milan, and finally a Rome. Once we saw the overall size and layout of the house we knew this was the one. After deciding on the house it was time for upgrades and elevation. We choose elevation C all siding island pearl with black shutters and front door. The Rome comes standard with a loft but we decided that the loft was going to switch places with bedroom 2. This puts the loft at the top of the stairs instead of the front. I'll attach a picture of our floor plan. This was a custom option for us. We also get 2' garage extension, hardwood in foyer and powder room in our development.

Selections...
morning room, finished basement, garage service door, upgraded master shower, kitchen recessed lights, gourmet island, Rushmore maple butterscotch glaze kitchen cabinets, cabinet crown molding, bronze cabinet hardware, bronze door hardware, bronze lights, 3 ceiling fan prewire, recessed lights family room, 2" conduit pipe from basement to attic. We didn't upgrade the carpet or flooring because we're going to replace once all our painting and projects are done.

We went back and forth with our lot choice but finally decided on a nice big corner lot at the start of a cul de sac.
It was the beginning of February and it was time to just wait. Finally by the end of May we had our pre construction meeting and on 6/9/14 they broke ground!

We currently live in the same town and I drive right by taking my son to daycare so I check out progress daily.
As of now the basement walls are completed, the dirt is back filled, and the garage floor and basement floors are prepped.

I will go into detail on this picture on next post.

Here is the changed floor plan for our house

  1. Hi there, its nice to find another new Rome blog! My family and I are building a Rome in SC, all paperwork signed, but we aren't breaking ground for another month or two. I like how you switched bedroom two and the loft, that is a great idea! It will feel much more open when you go up the stairs. If you wanted to follow along with me as well I'm blogging at aromeofourown.blogspot.com

  2. Thanks Marissa! Yes we feel the same way about the loft. On paper it seems like a good idea I hope it works as good in person.
